Increase Trade Show Sales

The economy has placed everyone under a great deal of stress and strain every dollar counts and no matter what the sales and marketing channel we are using, increasing sales revenues and return on investment is crucial. Trade shows are a channel within which billions of dollars are generated in this instance, it is imperative that businesses make decisions based upon value and not cost.

Trade shows attract qualified prospects that are looking to do business and have definite needs which they are looking to satisfy imminently or within the short-term, typically within 6 months. Selling to trade show prospects means you are dealing with potential customers who are much closer to making the final buying decision than is usually the case when you are cold selling through other marketing channels.

The initial problem is to attract attendees to your trade show display so that you can capture information and interact with them. For this you will need a good quality trade show display with well-trained booth staff and excellent promotional tools; however this is all a prelude to getting attendees to discuss business with you.

The major issue is turning these trade show prospects into hot customers and cold hard cash.

Qualify

Do not forget the usual selling principles first qualify your prospects. This applies at trade shows as anywhere else, and to be effective you need to identify the hot leads who want to do business now. This is one instance where technology to track your contacts can be very useful so check with trade show management just what solutions they have in place for lead retrieval and scanning attendee badges. If management doesn t have a solution, create one yourself paper and pencil will do if necessary, though you can be more effective with some form of data capture which integrates with your Contact Management System.

Prioritize

Your contacts need to be prioritized, even if it is a basic ABC or hot, warm, cold, you need to prioritize in order to best direct selling efforts. You also should have a procedure in place to deal with prospects who wish to buy now and there will be occasions where attendees are intent on doing business there and then, though most are likely to want follow up post-trade show.

Hand Off

Your leads are hotter than they are going to be now make sure they are distributed to the sales team for follow up as soon as possible. It is imperative that all leads are followed up promptly and it is doubly important that leads which have been advised and agreed to follow up, or a follow is being done at their request, get the call, get the literature and have sales meetings arranged swiftly and promptly.

Maintain Contact with Prospects

As soon as possible after the trade show, send an email thanking the attendees whose contact information you have accumulated. Auto responders are good for this, though try to personalize them as much as is practical and possible. Use a series of emails to supplement the trade show follow up and integrate responses with the sales team for prompt action.

The fifth annual Sony Fair, established and organized by Sony Taiwan Limited in Taipei, Taiwan since 2004, started at the North Square of Taipei 101 near the TWTC Hall 3 from April 3 to 13. With more opportunities and chances of Blu-ray and High-definition markets, the organizer named its theme slogan with “High-definition Entertainment Park”.

Since the Sony Fair was established in 2004, several brand new AV-media products made their stages at this show and took good effects in it. And this time, after winning the consumer market in the optical storage battle, I’m proud to announce that “Not only Sony, all our groups are BACK“! With several varied and new technologies, the lifestyle changed rapidly with modern people. A typical example is the invention of LCD Television, that drove the high-definition becoming the mainstream in this digital AV-media era. Since I visited Taiwan 2 years ago, I saw several future miniatures from Blu-ray and high-definition AV-media products. Finally in this [digital AV-media] era, this dream became reality and several accessories like digital cameras and recorders also integrated with those new technologies above and showcased in this fair.
This year of Sony Fair with the main theme of “HD Entertainment Park”, showcased not only newly-launched Sony ? , but also BRAVIA, showcased at 2007 Taipei IT Month, games and consoles of PS3 and PSP, showcased at 2008 Taipei Game Show and 2008 Softex Taipei. Because of marketing strategies [by Sony], we [Sony] brought up opportunities and achievements for high-definition markets like Sony Pictures Entertainment, Chunghwa Telecom, and Public Television Service, who produced several HDTV programs with different styles. By the way, the “Audio Gallery” showcase varied ways to enjoy digital music like Walkman, integrated with Bluetooth technology recently, will be released in the middle of April 2008.

Not only executives supported this show, and high-definition AV-media showcases, but Sony BMG Taiwan will also invite several vocalists to hold some mini concerts in the Sony Fair 2008 to bring up the visitors during holiday nights.

Football: PFA release award nominations

The Professional Footballers’ Association announced nominees for the Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year on Friday. PFA awards are voted on by the players, for the players, based on their performances over the past season. Last years winner of both awards, Cristiano Ronaldo, is again in contention for the double, as is Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas and Liverpool’s Fernando Torres. Both Arsenal and Liverpool have two players up for the main award, while Aston Villa has two nominees for the Young Player Award through Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young.

Tennessee town mulls ‘stop work order’ as construction of controversial grain tanks begins

Mayor Scott Jewell of the city of Dyer, Tennessee did not issue a “stop work order” to Dyer Grain Company late Tuesday afternoon as had been expected. The order would have temporarily halted construction of new grain storage tanks.

Dyer Grain’s efforts at expansion have been blocked several times over the past few years both by zoning restrictions on the height of structures and by citizens groups who filed suit against the grain company and the city’s board of zoning appeals. The lawsuit was dismissed two months ago. The Dyer City Council then amended the zoning ordinance to include “grain storage tanks and bins” in a section of the ordinance listing exclusions, such as free standing spires and towers, to the regular 40 foot height restriction on buildings.

Several citizens spoke at the November 28 city council meeting to address alleged deficiencies in the building permit issued to Dyer Grain. The citizens claimed that according to the site plan filed with the application for the permit, the location of the tanks will violate another provision in the zoning ordinance restricting the height of all structures to the distance from surrounding property lines plus ten feet. The citizens were also concerned over a “grain conveyor” that will cross a city street. Mayor Jewell indicated that he would contact the Gibson County building inspector (who is contracted by the city to act as the municipal inspector) to research the citizens’ concerns.

Jewell contacted Ricky Bailey, Gibson County Building inspector, on Wednesday. Bailey reportedly could find no deficiencies with the permit and, based on this advice, Jewell chose not to issue the stop work order himself. The City Council could still meet and vote to issue the order. The council meets the second Monday of each month.

“The main problem is that the grain company is in an industrial zone — which is located smack in the middle of a low-density residential zone.” Nathan Reed, an elected Alderman of Dyer said, “The property values in the area have increased (with inflation) but not at the same rate as other properties.”

Normal buildings, such as offices and warehouses, can’t exceed 40′ plus 10′ to the eave. The requested change in the ordinance changes the status of the towers from a building to the same status of an antenna or tower.

Mr Reed added, “The height to the eave is 76′, the height to the top of the tank is 105′, the height to the top of the elevator (atop the tank) is 133′. The 133′ is the only measurement that matters now because the change to the zoning ordinance means this is no longer a “building”, but rather the same as an antenna or tower.”

“The grain company specifically requested that change to the ordinace — which was opposed by several citizens…They can build it as high as they like so long as it conforms to the overal height restriction for towers, spires, etc.”

Mr Reed commented on additional concerns, “The citizens are concerned about the health effects of (additional) grain dust, noise, and grain explosions.”

The new construction is expected to generate annual property tax revenues of $10,000 to $16,000.

Messi speaks of Argentina exit after losing Copa América Centenario over penalties

Argentina’s football captain Lionel Messi spoke of retirement from international football after losing 4–2 to Chile in the penalty decider in Copa América Centenario final on Sunday. Since then, many players including his present FC Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez, former teammates David Villa and Ronaldinho, former Argentina captain Diego Maradona, and Argentine president Mauricio Macri have expressed disappointment, some urging him to stay.

Messi missed the penalty kick after Chilean Autero Vidal’s spot kick was stopped by Sergio Romero as the match progressed to a penalty shootout. Javier Mascherano and Sergio Agüero scored their spot kicks for Argentina, but after Lucas Biglia’s penalty was saved by Claudio Bravo, Francisco Silva scored the winning penalty for Chile.

Messi was crying after the match, and later told news reporters, “In the dressing room I thought that this is the end for me with the national team, it’s not for me” ((es))Spanish language: ?En el vestuario pensé que se terminó para mí la Selección, no es para mí. Today, Suárez speaking to Radio Tenfield said, “Knowing Leo, I’m sure it was said in a moment of sadness and helplessness. It would be a shame for football if he took this decision, but I’m sure he will reconsider and change his mind.”

Yesterday, president Mauricio Macri and Maradona urged him to think about his decision.

Messi’s former teammate David Villa said, “It’s very bad news for soccer. Messi is the best player in the world. […] I don’t know what happened in his mind[…] I know he’s strong, a professional player, he’s sure now disappointed because he lost one more final in penalty kicks again.”

Ronaldinho, former Brazilian player and ex-Barcelona player, told America TV he respects Messi’s opinion and he would be always with him.

Five time World Player of the Year Messi has lost four finals on the international stage, of which three defeats came in the last three years — 2014 FIFA World Cup loss to Germany, last year’s loss to Chile, and this year’s.

Sergio Agüero told Argentine newspaper Olé other players were also deciding weather to hang up their boots.

Messi played for Argentina when they won the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medal.

US automakers GM and Chrysler seek more government aid

The United States auto manufacturer Chrysler, which has been badly affected by the ongoing recession, has asked the US government for an additional US$5 billion in aid on top of the four billion it has already received, saying that it plans to fire three thousand employees. At the end of last year, the auto maker had just over 54,000 employees, meaning that the layoffs will equal about six percent of its total workforce.

In addition, Chrysler will cut the Chrysler Aspen, PT Cruiser, and Durango from production.

Another automaker, General Motors (GM), announced that it seeks $16.6 billion in loans from the government, in addition to the $13.4 billion that it has already received. GM plans to lay off 47,000 employees and close five factories. GM says that it might need as much as $30 billion from the US Treasury Department, an increase over their previous estimate of $18 billion. The company has warned that it might run out of money by March if more aid was not given.

Rick Wagoner, GM’s chief executive, described the firm’s plan as “comprehensive, responsive, achievable, and flexible”. “We have a lot of work in front of us, but I am confident it will result in a profitable General Motors,” he said, adding that “today’s plan is significantly more aggressive because it has to be.” GM says that it could be profitable in two years’ time, and might be able to repay all its loans by 2017.

A third US car manufacturer, Ford Motor Company, has said that it can make it through this year without any government aid.

The US Treasury Department will review the car makers’ survival plans for several weeks before a decision is made on whether or not to extend the loans. That decision is due by the end of next month.
