Medical helicopter crashes near Chicago, Illinois killing four

Thursday, October 16, 2008

A medical helicopter has crashed near Chicago, Illinois killing three crew members and the patient, a thirteen-month-old baby girl. The crew aboard the helicopter included the pilot, a nurse and a paramedic.

The helicopter, operated by Air Angels Inc., was transporting the baby to Children’s Memorial Hospital from Valley West Hospital, when it hit a wire connected to a 734-foot (224-meter) radio tower in Aurora and burst into flames around 12:00 a.m. (EDT). The baby was suffering from epileptic seizures.

The cause of the crash is not known, and there were no reported problems with the helicopter before it took off. An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is ongoing.

This is the third crash which involved an Air Angels helicopter. In 2003, a pilot was killed when his chopper crashed. An investigation concluded that the cause was pilot error, and bad weather. Another chopper crashed in 2007, but there were no injuries.

Israel undergoes major emergency drill

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Israel has tested its readiness for a state of war and emergency by testing its emergency services and shelters on a national scale.

The drill is to be analyzed in order to determine the elements which need to be corrected and fixed, and Israel’s emergency readiness is to be assessed.

Israeli school children were told to hide under their school tables as part of the drill, which officials claimed to be the biggest drill ever in Israeli history.

Syria has claimed, in return, that the drill is intended as a battle readiness exercise and claims that Israel is preparing for war.

Non-profit ACORN plans to shut down

The US community organizing group Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) will end its operations due to dwindling funds. The group said in a statement that it would close most of its field offices by April 1.

The heads of the organization said in a joint statement that “ACORN’s members have a great deal to be proud of—from promoting homeownership to helping rebuild New Orleans, from raising wages to winning safer streets, from training community leaders to promoting voter participation—ACORN members have worked hard to create stronger communities, a more inclusive democracy, and a more just nation.”

The group, founded in 1970, played a prominent role in the 2008 US presidential elections, as it conducted many voter registration drives and fundraising for then-Senator Barack Obama, among other Democratic candidates. The organization first became scrutinized during the 2006 mid-term elections, when some of its employees were accused of voter fraud. Matters got worse in 2009 after an undercover video revealed two of its employees giving advice on how to set up a prostitution ring and commit tax fraud.

Turkey: Aircraft skids off runway toward Black Sea

Monday, January 15, 2018

Saturday afternoon, a commercial aircraft skidded off the runway at Trabzon Airport in Turkey. The airplane, which carried over 160 passengers and crew, had just landed when it left the runway and went down a cliff, where it stopped, perilously close to the Black Sea. The aircraft is a Boeing 737-800 operated by Pegasus Airlines.

Provincial governor Yucel Yavuz told the press, everyone was evacuated and no injuries were reported. He announced the airport would be closed until Sunday morning as investigators take a look at the incident. It is unclear why the plane veered off the runway. Photos show the nose of the craft mere meters from the sea on the steep cliff.

Passenger Yuksel Gordu told Anadolu Agency: “It’s a miracle we escaped. We could have burned, exploded, flown into the sea.” Fellow passenger Fatma Gordu said: “We tilted to the side. The front was down while the plane’s rear was up. There was panic, people shouting, screaming.”

How Do You Hang Posters In A Display Booth

By A. Nutt

When you own a business, setting up a trade show booth at a convention or a trade show can be a great way to sell and showcase your products. Why would you want to set up a trade show booth? Well, its because doing so is a great way for you to get new customers. You create leads and you get your companys name out there for people to see and recognize. In the meantime, youre doing something that they remember such as giving away free items, conducting contests, and playing games. But you have to bring attention to your display booth before people will take the time to stop by. Hanging posters in your display booth is one way to do that.

Hanging posters

There are several ways in which you can hang posters in a display booth. First of all, you can get a screen to place in the background. These screens allow you to hang signs posters, and other types of media. However, you do have to have something such as a snap frame to keep the poster from curling up. This also keeps you from having to attach the poster at all corners. A snap frame allows you to attach the poster in one or two places.

You an also look into easels. You can place your posters in frames and set them up on easels in front of your display booth. Then again, you can get tabletop easels and let them sit on top of your table. The only downfall to that is the fact that they may be too large. When they are too large, they can cover up your product or place a barrier between you and the customer.

If it is allowed, you may be able to hang your posters from the rafters of the building you are in. That is if you are in a building. Some trade shows are held outside, so that can make this a bit difficult. However, inside it can be quite beneficial, especially if your posters are large enough to see from across the arena. If they are not large enough to see from across the arena, you may find that hanging them from the ceiling is something that will not work out too well.

Whatever you do, make sure that you keep them as close to eye level as possible. Now hanging from the ceiling is not eye level, but people will see them from far away. It has something to do with how we look at things from a distance, which is why there are many who will take advantage of the ceiling if they can.

Placement is key

Just know that placement is key when it comes to hanging posters on and around your trade show display. You have to make sure your posters are seen, but you need to ensure they are not covering up anything important. You have to make sure they are attractive enough to get your trade show display the attention that it deserves. Something that is dull and dingy is not going to get the attention that you wish to have. You want something that represents you and will leave a lasting impression. Nevertheless, you dont want to be annoyingly loud.

So if youre looking for a great way to bring attention to your trade show display, posters are a great way to do that. How the posters are displayed will make an impact because people respond to placement and display method. Never hang a poster without some sort of framing because it can roll, wrinkle, and so much more.

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer makes 2005 Budget speech

Wednesday, March 16, 2005

The United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Right Honourable Gordon Brown PC MP, in a speech to the British House of Commons today presented his ninth Budget, what is very likely to be his last Budget before the next UK General Election. This opened the parliamentary debate on the 2005 Finance Bill, and was followed by responses from the opposition parties.

In a 48 minute long speech, the Chancellor presented a Budget of “tax cuts that are reasonable, spending that is affordable, and [economic] stability that is paramount”, that was “the prudent course for Britain”. There were few surprises that had not already been indicated in his 2004 pre-Budget report. The increase in the threshold on stamp duty was greater than that forecast by commentators, as was the amount of the Council Tax rebate to households with pensioners.

Keisha Castle-Hughes playing Virgin Mary

Monday, March 20, 2006

New Zealand actress and Whale Rider (2002) star Keisha Castle-Hughes will star as The Blessed Virgin Mary in the upcoming New Line Cinema film, Nativity.

Castle-Hughes, 15, who is of Australian and Maori descent, was the youngest actress to be nominated for a best-actress Academy Award when she was recognized for her role in Whale Rider.

Catherine Hardwicke, who is best known for Three Kings (1999), will direct.

Nativity looks at the life of the biblical couple Mary and Joseph prior to the birth of Jesus, showing how their faith, love and beliefs are tested. The script incorporates the couple’s journey from Nazereth to Bethlehem, and includes figures such as King Herod and the three astrologers (a.k.a. the Three Kings or the Three Wise Men).

Filming is scheduled to begin in May and will include locations in Morroco and Italy. The studio aims for a December 2006 release.

The Benefits Of Commercial Security Systems In Detroit

byAlma Abell

If you own a business, then you need to make sure that you keep your property protected at all times. This means from robbers, thieves, vandals, and any other type of criminal out there. The best way to ensure that your business is left alone is to install security cameras. Most robbers will not consider trying a store that has security cameras because it’s likely that they will be identified and arrested. They could run inside with a mask, but this gives the store owner ample time to prepare for the threat. If you want to prevent people from even thinking about stealing from your store or trying to rob you, then you need to get a set of quality security cameras installed.

If you are looking for Commercial Security Systems in Detroit, click for more info on the products offered by Knight Watch Inc. This is one of the most popular choices for Commercial Security Systems in Detroit because they have so many different cameras to choose from. When you are having cameras installed, you may want to consider putting some obvious ones at the entrance to your store and maybe a few others on the inside as well. In addition to these obvious cameras, you could also have a few tiny ones installed behind your cash register. These small cameras are hard to see and are guaranteed to catch footage of an incident without being destroyed by a criminal. A camera system is usually enough to deter most criminals, but if someone still targets your store, at least you can provide the police with video footage of the incident so they can find that person and get them off of the street.

Owning a business is a very big responsibility. You need to ensure that you are protecting your assets or you risk losing your source of income. One robbery can easily set a store too far behind to become successful. If you want to ensure that your business is safe from criminals looking for some easy cash, then contact a security company about having cameras installed around your property. You will be thankful for the cameras should an incident ever happen in the future and the police come asking questions.

China overtakes U.S. as world’s largest consumer

Thursday, February 17, 2005China is now the world’s largest consumer of resources, passing the United States.

China’s consumption exceeds the U.S.’s in grain and meat, coal, and steel, with the U.S. only still using more oil a year.

China uses more wheat and rice than the U.S. every year, with the U.S. only taking more corn. In total, China consumed 382 million tons of grain in 2004 while the U.S. used 278 million tons.

The world’s most populous country also eats more meat, consuming 64 million tons a year compared to the U.S.’s 38 million, despite the average Chinese person eating 49 kg a year (the U.S. average is 127 kg).

However the U.S. still uses three times as much oil, consuming 20.4 million barrels a day in 2004 while China uses only 6.5 million. But China’s oil consumption doubled between 1994 and 2004, while the U.S.’s only increased by 15%. Japan is the world’s third largest oil consumer. Car sales doubled in China over the last two years.

China is rapidly heading to being the largest producer of carbon dioxide, the gas responsible for the greenhouse effect. Two-thirds of China’s electricity is generated by burning coal, using 800 million tons a year.

China has a population of 1.3 billion people and its increases in consumption are being driven by a booming economy. However, the country only had an average per-capita income of $5,300 in 2004, one-seventh of the U.S.’s $38,000. The U.S., with its population of around 295 million being about four times less than China’s, still consumes considerably more per person than does China, despite the differences in raw values.

The country now imports large amounts grain, soybeans, iron ore, aluminum, copper, platinum, phosphates, potash, oil and natural gas, forest products for lumber and paper, and cotton. In order to feed its demand for raw materials, the country has formed economic relationships for long term imports from major exporters such as Russia, Brazil and Australia.

The country is also growing rapidly in economic strength; along with Japan, it buys most of the U.S. Treasury’s securities that allows the US to run its huge financial deficit.
